There were 6.2 million scientists and engineers employed in the United States as of 2012, according to the
Congressional Research Service. These professionals constituted 4.8% of the workforce at that time. By 2014, however, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)) reported that there were 328,200 employed medical and clinical laboratory technicians.
Given the number of scientists and engineers that are leaving and/or retiring from the field, the BLS projects that by 2022, a total of 1.3 million more will be needed to fill various positions. Furthermore, they also project there will be approximately 2.3 million employment opportunities being filled between 2014 and 2022. Currently, there are roughly 13,500 labs and other facilities in operation.
Lab Efficiency
There are several variables that determine a lab’s overall efficiency. In addition to the lab’s specific personnel and the processes being performed, the equipment obviously makes a significant difference. Furthermore, how this equipment is being used makes a difference in overall efficiency. While it is dependent on the type of lab and the work being performed there, there are a variety of scientific lab products that will be needed to complete the necessary tasks.
Magnetic Hot Plate Stirrers
In order to mix components so that a homogenous liquid mixture is obtained, a Benchmark hot plate stirrer can be used. This important piece of equipment mixes components utilizing a rotating magnetic field, and its range of speed is from 60 revolutions per minute to 1,500 revolutions per minute.
Laboratory Fume Hoods
Laboratory safety measures are adhered to by using laboratory fume hoods. These prevent vapors that may be either toxic or irritants from entering the workspace. General purpose fume hoods, for example, are able to function properly when they have a hood face velocity of 100 feet per minute.
Chemical fume hoods are available in 4 types:
- Conventional Fume Hoods
- Bypass Fume Hoods
- Auxiliary Aire Fume Hoods
- Specialty Hoods
Each of these type of fume hoods are used for specific purposes.
New Era Pump Systems
The NE-100 Single Syringe Pump is designed to hold a single syringe. These can range in size from a micro liter to 60 micro liters.
When you need scientific lab products such as the above or other types of equipment to perform water analysis and other tasks, it’s important to have the highest quality equipment available. Furthermore, this equipment needs to be well-maintained and used correctly in order to ensure lab efficiency. Continue reading here. More.
